About Dr. Shapiro

Dr. Peter Shapiro has been providing outstanding orthodontic care since 1977. He earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Howard University and went on to earn his Master’s degree and Certificate of Orthodontics from the University of Washington. He also completed a three-year NIH Fellowship in Craniofacial Biology at the University of Washington. He has been in the faculty of the Department of Orthodontics at the University of Washington since 1977. He was Chairman of the Department for 12 years, and is now a clinical Professor.

Dr. Shapiro is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics and a published author, having been published in numerous publications as well as four textbook chapters. He is a member of several prestigious organizations including the American Dental Association, American Association of Orthodontists, Pacific Coast Society of Orthodontists, Seattle King County Dental Society, Angle Society and the Seattle Crown and Bridge Study Club.

In his spare time, Dr. Shapiro enjoys golfing, running, kayaking and gardening.

About Dr. Winkler

Northcut Orthodontics is thrilled to announce that Dr. Reid Winkler has joined our practice in 2010. He earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from University of Washington in 1998, at which time he was commissioned as a Dental Officer in the United States Navy. Following a one-year Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency in San Diego, Dr. Winkler worked for five more years as a general dentist aboard the USS Denver and at Naval Station Rota, Spain. In 2004, he returned to Seattle for the orthodontic residency at the University of Washington, where he was one of Dr. Shapiro’s graduate students. Upon graduation, Dr. Winkler fulfilled his military obligation by serving as the Chairman of the Department of Orthodontics at the Naval Postgraduate Dental School in Bethesda, Maryland. After 11 ½ years of service, Dr. Winkler made the decision to separate from the military and return to join Dr. Shapiro in practice. He brings a wealth of energy and experience to the office, and adds the flexibility of additional appointment days.

Dr. Winkler is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics and an accomplished educator. He has been an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Health Care Sciences at The George Washington University and responsible for the Navy’s continuing education programs in orthodontics. He is a member of the Seattle King County Dental Society, Washington State Dental Association, Washington State Society of Orthodontists, Pacific Coast Society of Orthodontics, American Dental Association and the American Association of Orthodontists.

In his spare time, Dr. Winkler enjoys snowboarding, distance running, golf and world travel.
